Groote Schuur Hospital’s legacy with the first human-to-human heart transplant performed by Christiaan Barnard in 1967, landed it on the map for medical innovation across the globe.
While Groote Schuur maintains state-of-the-art equipment, funding for the hospital has been extremely limited. This has had an impact on the hospital’s available educational facilities.
Prof Swanevelder, the Head of the Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital, (which includes the anaesthesia departments of Red Cross Hospital, New Somerset Hospital and Mowbray Maternity Hospital), approached Medhold as a leading provider of Anaesthesia equipment, for assistance in creating an Anaesthesia Education & Innovation Hub.
Building partnerships, building futures
Medhold, recognising the importance of supporting education initiatives within the public sector, decided to proudly support this initiative.
The Department of Anaesthesia was allocated space by the hospital to provide an Education & Innovation Hub which would be a facility for Registrars, Undergraduates and Postgraduates, to utilize for studying and educational purposes.
Opening new doors with the Anaesthesia Education & Innovation Hub
The official opening and ribbon cutting of the Anaesthesia Education & Innovation Hub was held on the 12th November 2021 and as a major contributor to this initiative Medhold was invited to attend the opening.
Medhold together with Groote Schuur Hospital are redefining healthcare through education.
